On-premise Installation - SQL Express on the same server
Installing FocalScope on your own server is a straightforward affair, but FocalScope has some dependencies that need to be installed and configured in order for your FocalScope installation to run smoothly. This article details the steps you need to take to install FocalScope and all it's dependencies.

Installing the IIS dependency
- Ensure that the Internet Information Services role (IIS) is correctly installed:
- Open the Windows Control Panel and click the [Turn Windows features on or off] link

- In the Server Manager window, click [Add Roles] (see Figure 2)

- When the Add Roles Wizard loads, at the Before You Begin step, click [Next >]
- At the Server Roles step, tick the checkbox for the [Web Server (IIS)] role and click [Next >]

- At the Web Server (IIS) step, click [Next >]
- At the Role Services step, tick the checkboxes of the required role services as indicated in Figures 4 & 5

- At the Confirm Installation Selections step, click [Install]
Checking your operating system type (32-bit or 64-bit)
- In the Windows taskbar, click the [Start] button, right click [Computer] and select [Properties]
- In the System window, under the [System] section, check the [System type] value (it will be either 32- or 64-bit). See Figure 6

Downloading SQL Server 2008 R2 Express
- Open the following URL http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26729 and download SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (See Figure 7)
- Click the [Download] button highlighted in red if yours is a 64-bit operating system
- Click the [Download] button highlighted in blue if yours is a 32-bit operating system
Please note,download the 'Database with Advanced Services' version of SQL server, as FocalScope needs the Full-Text Search feature to function properly.

Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express
- Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Services. During the installation, please make sure you install the Reporting Services and Full-Text Search components (see Figure 8)
- During the rest of the SQL Server installation steps, leave all configuration parameters at their default values and click [Next >]

Installing FocalScope
- Please note, if you're installing FocalScope on a fresh installation of SQL Server Express edition, reboot the SQL Server machine before you begin installing FocalScope. This is necessary for Full-Text Search services to work properly on SQL Server Express

- Run the FocalScope setup program and leave all installation parameters at their default values
